Marlin owner Jeffrey Loria is an idiot.
So he doesn’t get along all that well with Joe Girardi. Big deal. If he was smart, he would suck it up and deal with it. Girardi is destined to be a great manager, and he totally fits into his miserly financial scheme. The whole team makes less than A-Rod (seriously), and they are only 4.5 games back of the NL wild card. Granted, some of that has to do with the NL being as undeniably lame as it is, but this is a team many people predicted would be about 25 games out of the wild card race at about this time, considering they have Dontrelle Willis, Miguel Cabrera, and a bunch of dudes with names like Hanley and Anibal (not to mention a second baseman named Dan Uggla. How Berman hasn’t started calling this dude Dan “Chugga” Uggla is beyond all comprehension (although this may have inspired him, in which case, my bad). Loria is a tightwad, and yet Girardi can build a competitve franchise on a shoestring budget. How is that not the perfect fit, even if Loria doesn’t care for the guy?
Oh well. I’m sure the Cubs would be more than happy to take Girardi off of his hands, anyway. Which they will, guaranteed. If they don’t, well, Andrew McPhail is an idiot.
